Working late

10:55 am-Another Monday, but it's a really short week. Went to the dr's for another bp check & cholesterol, not bad, could be better. Short week! Weekend was quiet, except for loud kids. Been rainy. No church Sunday-shopping. Boys went to a church thing Sat night-we had Chinese and shopped thrift stores.

7:04 pm-Early evening, trying to get a little work in, remotely. Had a nice conversation with the German teacher. Messed up a few files and wasted time fixing it.

10:18 pm-Trying to finish up work. Bleh. Had spaghetti & sausage for dinner. Boys are being pains.

11:32pm-Done. Time for bed. Salem is now a pain.

Friday is here.

1:44 pm-Waiting for a login. It's Friday!. I like dressing down, but I'd rather be at home. Fortunately I now have it set up to where I can be productive-I have to remote in to a server in Chicago to vnc remote to the Linux box on a laptop here. That way database access isn't glacial. I'd like to direct vnc into the Linux box, but I can't. I had lunch with the team and a candidate for a functional role. At Applebee's. Fun. She's from Miami too! Got 2 bugs fixed. Last night was quiet-tidied up, cooked a bit, clothes and dishes. Got beer for tonight. M had a hard time staying asleep until I gave him some valerian. Usual up today, but granola instead of the cooking so I ate before leaving. Easy drive in. I love looking at the desktop slideshow.

I've been trying to come up with something to say about recent events in these here United States. It's tough, because while people are protesting, getting arrested, getting beaten, maced and pepper sprayed, the majority of people aren't. And some don't care. And liberal talk seems of 2 minds. Conservative radio speaks for the 0.01%, so they're predictable, as are the actions of the police. But some lib radio people don't understand that the Occupy movement isn't just about expressing dissatisfaction with the nasty state of income disparity, unequal taxation, corporate politics, etc. It's also a cool experiment in direct democracy, where decisions are made in the group, rather than from the top down. People are working together and getting things done. So what if they don't have a bunch of demands and talking points? That will come. It's only been 60 days. Having said that, it's actually pretty straightforward-"Get the money out of politics". Everything sort of follows from that.

Another day.

1:33 pm-The day is flying by, and I'm still on the same bug. Almost done, and on to the next one. Quiet evening-put clothes and dishes away. Watched Mythbusters. It was very windy and rainy. Woke up a few times by S kicking. C had a wakeup, and M too. Up as usual-messed up my alarm. A little cvonflict, but only a little late. Big backup in Sellwood-took the roundabout route-almost all the way to the bridge.

4:31 pm-Well, lunch was yummy-meatloaf sandwich. Got through the bug-and generated and fixed a few more. (now it's 5:16) Time to go. Got 2 fixed today-more tomorrow. Time to go get food.

The next day.

I'm going to try to do this daily for a bit, see if I can start some momentum...I woke up at 7:40 from an average dream. That's late, so we had to rush. That plus the boys were hard asleep and one was on the GameBoy instead of getting things done. We've been pretty consistently late this year-off our rhythm. Tough drive in-backed up all through Tacoma in Sellwood. Pretty good radio listening though. Rice & yogurt for breakfast.

11:30 am-Working on testing a bug. Now it's 12:10. Need to rework the logic. Busy on Floating City, went to *$. No gamelan for the next month. Helping a co-worker with a PL/SQL problem.

2:20 pm-Time for lunch-wasting time on this PL/SQL thing and testing a bug-Eclipse and SQL Server aren't playing nice. Looks better now. It's rainy and cold out-glad I'm inside, but the early nightfall is still tough.

5:00 pm-Last drink of water. I actually made tea, too. Nice lunch-leftovers as usual. Got the bug fixed, another, and I'll finish this one up and call it a day. Friending some of the gamelan folks.

"Now isn't that special..."

Okay, after a break of, uhhhh, a little while (make that 5 months), I'm finally going to post something. "Now isn't that special..."

I guess part of the problem is that I'm just so busy, and carving time out of work is impossible, and carving time out at home is even more impossible. That plus settling in to a new place, pushing out releases at work, gamelan just doesn't leave me with enough energy to get things done. I did, however, get to putting an organizer together, which might help a little. I'm still trying to work through the inner development stuff-I found a really good Steiner text on this. We switched to a credit union last month too-trying to get occupy moving forward a bit. I'm mulling over getting into politics-we might be close to getting the pendulum swinging the other way.

Onward. Here's the recap: Moving, 4th of July, Matt to reading camp, Erika girls out day, girls sleepover, Colin campouts, church friends leaving, watched Jaws, Colin to school camp, birthday-party, show, moon ball, Erika to Breitenbush, Matt baking for church rummage sale, boys to music camp, doctor consult, baby shower, Hood River birthday party, Art in the Pearl show, rummage sale work, weekend at Ocean Shores with parents, 4th grade camping, church's new building, dentist, boys to Ekone ranch & Opal Creek, sick, Erika to OWS protest, Erika surgery, short gamelan show, clean house, Halloween, indoor kite-sore, usher at church, gamelan show, church dedication.

Marking time

OK, I guess I should post something, if only to satisfy the slavering masses hanging on every syllable...

Since I haven't posted since the end of March, here's a longish recap: mixing gamelan, Colin play, bird's mating dance, Matt concert, friend's kid's birthday party, Erika at auction, Kid's fest, get grass cut & maintained, Colin's birthday, Bin Laden killed, royal wedding, Mathias' Olympiad, coming of age at church, Colin's sleepover, Mathias too, Mathias sick, Erika diverticulitis & sciatica, Mathias' cut up toe, new brakes & engine mount, chipped tooth, Colin farm trip, Hood River trip, cleaned car, i, Chicago trip, church & school potlucks, buy the house? not. renting & packing bleh, kids out of school, new iPod. Got it? That's really only so I know what happened between March and July 2011 when someone asks...

Basically it's been the usual, except that we're moving into a tiny apartment next week. It sucks, but we're going to save $600/month which will pay for school and hopefully pay off enough debt that we can buy a house. I tried to tell Erika this when we moved up here, but she didn't hear me, so we've peed away all the extra money we got when I got a big pay hike. Oh well. Such are things.

In and out the chakras we go.

Now it's time for another post. Been busy doing the usual: get the kids ready for school, take them to school, drive to work, work, drive home, put the kids to bed, clean the house. Rinse and repeat, 5 days a week. Weekends: sleep in, clean, watch kids if the wife does something by herself. Go to church, clean, watch kids if the wife does something by herself. Get ready for the week. Plus my car has some things that need repair, and we're tragically short of ca$h. Oh well-at least I'm getting through the Steiner material-need to start work on the ID program. Gamelan has been spotty, but I got to play bonang a few times and drum for one piece. I'm jumping rope for 15 minutes 3 times a week pretty consistently, doing the 5 Tibetan Rites the other 3 days, and the long Yang every night. I'm making progress-just about halfway through learning the form, and my cardio shape is improving. I'll probably start Pilates in a while and move the 5 Rites to jumprope days.

The rest of the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Actually not, but there are pockets of that. The huge earthquake & off the coast of Japan and the subsequent reactor nightmare, Libya, Syria, Yemen, the slow motion disaster here and climate change, it seems like humanity is thrashing around a bit. I'm thinking everyone is waiting for something big to happen, but no one quite knows what it is. Though there's no shortage of speculation, especially among those who believe in a big end. And no shortage of times in the past when the same thing was said and it didn't happen-a bit of crying wolf, I guess. We shall see-the best thing to do is to take it all with calm and peace.

Here are the links-again, pretty bleak. In keeping with the ID stuff, I should come up with a link list that's brighter, but L & A don't make it easy. Thanks, guys, we appreciate all the hard work you do deceiving humanity. Keep it up. Hopefully people will wake up soon and smell the coffee. From "Morning in America" to the Nightmare on Main Street, Mike Konczal on Radio Free Dylan, This Is What Class War Looks Like, Capitalism's Dismal Future, Class Warfare, the Final Chapter, When the World Is Turned Upside Down and Protest Is Privatized, The New American Dream, Greetings from Idiot America, The Collapse of Globalization. And on a brighter note, Post Carbon Institute. I know there are more people working on good stuff too. Sadly, we only tend to hear about the bad stuff…
